Sunny Saturday

Saturday was the hottest day of the year to date. Just right for playing boule and just taking it easy.
We had 14 members turn up plus a couple of guests. We used both pistes and added three more games to our running totals.  Hope to publish the details over the next few days.
After our team played well in the final regional qualifier, we now have entered the Home Nations qualifier, This will be very good experiance for our new team.

Regional Qualifiers at Farmhouse

I am really proud to have taken our team to Farmhouse to play the SCPA qualifiers.
With Sue, Lesley and Tony we played five games and won three. The two we lost were against Dave Stubbs, Richard and Steve Lombard, we took them by surprize at first running up a 8 - 0 lead but class held out and they beat us 13 - 9. Our second loss was against The Blue Army, they played with us and enjoyed a leisurely  romp to 13 - 0.
This gave us a 4 wins total and a minus difference, but we still had to  wait for the final games to see if we had to play in a play off. Sorry to say we missed the cut and ended up 15.
Thanks everyone for a good couple of days boule. I hope you all learnt enought to win next year

Jeff

Saturday at Cranleigh

This as been quite a week. In total we have had 5 possiblly 6 new members all signed up and ready to go.
It means we have just passed the 30 mark. It looks likely that we will be gaining a few more U3A members as we are in town and they dont have to travel so far.
Also this week we have added a couple of trees alongside our piste, this breaks up expanse of flat ground, we may add a couple more after our French trip.
The new piste is very good, it looks simple but is far from it.
Our team goes into the next round of the regional qualifiers on Sunday, we have a lot to do but will all do our best.

Re Pennock Cup

As ABC are now directing their members to this site, I will add the email I sent to Mike and Paul.
This was after I met Mike at CVSS on Tuesday. He said to me the blog was insensitive and to expect a letter from their Chairman..

Dear Mike,
Thank you for speaking to me today at Cranleigh Village Club, I was very surprised to find that I had upset various members of ABC. I had to wait until I got home to re read my insensitive blog. After re reading my account I find it very hard to understand how people can be so disruptive and troublesome.

I have always totally supported ABC as a club and really enjoy playing socially and in competition at Kirdford. Some members of ABC still see Cranleigh PC as a threat, we are doing our utmost to run the new club for the benefit of all Cranleigh and we are trying not to interfere with ABC in any way.

ABC is our nearest rival in the game of Petanque but we all should be pulling together to improve the game in this area, when I carryout SCPA work at Horsham and at the Cranleigh carnival if people wish to play and live nearer to ABC than Cranleigh I pass them on to your club.

Some of the members at Cranleigh belong to two or three other club, as such all of their triumphs or failures in any competition are truly exploited on our Blog.. A blog for Cranleigh PC open to all but entirely for Cranleigh.

If anyone has problems with the Cranleigh Blog please get in touch with me.

What does upset me is, it is now coming up for two week since the Pennock Cup, The ABC blog is still without a report or pictures that were taken on the day even the EPA do better than this.

My answer to Chair of ABC

Thank you for email, the contents will be added to the blog, for those wishing to see it.

As I have stated before, Cranleigh Members winning competitions in any forum will receive our applause and will be added to our blog to encourage other members to take part in competitive boule.

Email received from the Chair of Amities Boules Club.

Dear Jeff
I have read your item from the Cranleigh PC blog. I want to tell you that I am rather disappointed by the content of the article.
You will probably be aware that the Pennock Trophy is the oldest trophy played for within the Amities Boules Club. It was presented to the club by Wendy Pennock – a very dear friend, sadly no longer with us. It was originally hosted by Wendy’s Family for ABC and invited guests. The longstanding members of ABC will have fond memories of past competitions at Birchetts Brook (the family home). Although the trophy and plate were always keenly contested the emphasis was always on a friendly sociable occasion. Wine flowed by the wheelbarrow load and various members of the club have spent happy hours sleeping off hangovers in their cars during the afternoon of the competition (including this year’s winner!)
After Wendy’s death, ABC took over the running of the trophy, with the intention that this tradition of friendly competition should continue.
Dan and Joan played very well and thoroughly deserved to win the trophy. For a long time they were stalwart members of this club and I can think of no people more deserving of having their names on the cup. But they played as members of ABC. The trophy is only open to members of ABC and specially invited guests. Your article claims theirs as a victory for Cranleigh PC.
At best this is insensitive to the memory of a lovely lady. At worst it is divisive and designed to cause friction and point-scoring between the two clubs. A number of our members have said how upset they are at this. If this was not your intention then I would urge you to correct the impression which your article gives.

I would agree that we should have posted an item about the Pennock trophy before now. But surely a well considered article albeit a little late, is better than one put together in haste filled with errors?

What a busy month in Cranleigh

Its as been a busy few days at Cranleigh, firstly we had 20 tons of gravel deliverey and it was finally layed last Friday. On the day of the deliverey Emma, Ash and Jeff trenched in the wiring for the lights and power and set in the posts for the poles to hold the lights on.

Wednesday evening we travelled to Crondall for our first North Downs league match, we lost 6 - 3 but had a very good evening.

Saturday we entertained ABC Kirdford for our first home match in the North Downs league, the weather was wonderful. The match went down to the last game, being all level at 4 - 4, we took the last game and the match. Ten of our members played in the match and 3 more watched from the sides, Thanks everyone for turning out.

Thursday night saw the start of our evenings play at Cranleigh, also we would like to welcome Jill as a new member to the club she made her first apprerance on Thursday.

Sunday saw Lesley, Sue, Tony and Jeff take part in the regional trials at  Crondall, not a good day but we did beat ABC Kirdfords team in the last match.

Next week we will be using a vibrating roller to flatten the top surface and hopefully we will be ready to play next Thursday.
Having trouble with photo at present, but will put them all up shortly
